Loose Clothing and new tattoos

Choosing the right clothing during tattoo recovery is essential to ensure comfort and promote proper healing. Here’s a guide on clothing choices that balance comfort with care:

1. Opt for loose, breathable fabrics like cotton to reduce friction on the healing tattoo. Tight or abrasive clothing can irritate the sensitive skin.

2. If you’re having to go to work or if you’re going out, consider wearing dark-colored clothing to minimize the risk of any ink or ointment staining lighter fabrics.

3. Avoid synthetic clothing or rough textures or embellishments.

4. If your tattoo is in an area prone to sun exposure, consider wearing long sleeves or pants to protect it from direct sunlight during the initial healing phase.

5. Ladies, if you get a chest tattoo, consider not wearing a bra or wear a front-closure bras to minimize contact with the tattooed area and reduce friction during healing.

6. Opt for soft and breathable underwear if your tattoo is on the lower body. Avoid synthetics with seams that might rub against the tattoo.

7. If you have an abdominal tattoo, avoid wearing belts or tight waistbands that may exert pressure on the healing skin.

8. If your tattoo is on the leg, opt for slip-on shoes to avoid bending and stretching while putting on shoes and socks.

9. If you have specific concerns about clothing choices, consult with your tattoo artist. They can provide personalized advice based on the size, location, and characteristics of your tattoo.
